[Presenter] Medium-sized and small businesses should take part in the development of nanotechnologies in Russia, First Deputy Prime Minister Sergey Ivanov said during the government's hour in the Federation Council today. He said that, besides the State Nanotechnologies Corporation [Rosnanotekh], a whole network of companies should appear in the country to deal with hi-tech production. Now they are operating in the trade and services sector mainly.

The ways to attract medium-sized and small businesses to the new activities are to be discussed. As to the work of the state corporation, Ivanov said that it would begin to accept investment projects on 1 April.

[Ivanov] Nanotechnologies are the most genuine technology of the future. We do not have the right to stay away from taking part in the race to posses them. The strategy to develop the nanoindustry approved by the president in April 2007 clearly defines that Russia can and must play a principal role in developing and promoting innovation nanotechnology projects and join the leaders on the world market of nanoproducts and services.
